Lipari through art, nature and archaeology

Crystal-clear sea, wonderful beaches and… a fabulous history worth to see. Lipari, which is the biggest of the Aeolian Islands, is all these things together. The symbol of the town is the Castle that contains the historical memory of the island. It was a former Greek-Roman acropolis, then a ByzantineArab, and Norman fortress, and finally the medieval hamlet that was then turned into a confinement place for political exiles during Fascism. The beautiful Saint Calogero’s Tholos is worth to be seen (it is one of the few Mycenaean architectural monuments that are not in Greece). There are also colourful maritime suburbs along the coast. The art of a glorious past has influenced the contemporary architecture marvelously, characterised by the unmistakable Aeolian style which is the original brand of the island.
