Catania
Catania, which is the most important city in eastern Sicily, was founded by Greeks from Chalcis at the foot of Mount Etna in 728 BC. It played a key-role in the long history of the island in spite of having been struck by different natural catastrophes. Since it was rebuilt in the same site more than one time, Catania has kept the tracks of its ancient and medieval past among the sumptuous Baroque façades of its buildings and churches. Therefore, it became a real art and archaeological treasure.
