Into the heart of Sicily
It is worth abandoning the wonderful Sicilian beaches for a day to enter the heart of the island, where an unchanging landscape welcomes the most curious visitor to tell of a different Sicily, where archaeology, history and nature are still closely bound up with each other. Here we find traces of early civilisations that left indelible marks on the landscape: entire rocks scattered with rock cut tombs, ancient cities dug up on abandoned hillsides, Roman villas disseminated on ancient routes among latifundia. And then, the traces of the long and never ended Middle Ages. Towers and castles are still prominent on the hills, guardians of a diverse land, isolated as memories of eclipsed cultures or swallowed in urban works where alleys, yards and squares bear witness to the passage of invaders and conquerors.
