THE CATANESE HYBLAEAN PLATEAU
The enchanting towns of Vizzini and Militello in Val di Catania, that lie along the narrow valleys of the northern side of the Hyblaean Mountains, are wonderfully nested in a rural landscape unchanged even to this day. Settled along the inland routes between the Mediterranean and the Ionian coasts during the Classical Age, the two small towns were enriched with art and architectural gems from the Middle Ages and to the 17th century. The 1693 earthquake almost leveled Vizzini and Militello, but they were rebuilt even more beautifully in the Sicilian late Baroque style.
