.An exceptional continuity of life and a centuries-old historical stratification characterize Palermo, the most important city of the Carthaginian eparchy, and the third city-port together with Solunto and Mozia. It was founded in the 7th century BC by the Phoenicians, and then conquered by the Romans during the first Punic War.
This private archaeological tour of Palermo starts with a visit to the Punic necropolis, in the western part of the ancient town, where you can see various types of tombs dating from the end of the 7th century BC to the middle of the 3rd century BC.
We will continue with a visit to the two magnificent Roman residences (2nd century BC - 3rd century AD), found in the Villa Bonanno in Piazza della Vittoria, with the beautiful mosaic of the Caccia di Alessandro (the Hunt of Alessandro) and the remains of a thermal complex.
In the end, we will visit the Antonino Salinas Archaeological Museum, which has one of the most important and well-stocked archaeological collections in Italy. It also houses testimonies of Sicilian history from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
