Urban trekking tour through the old districts of Modica
This urban trek is one of the most remarkable ways to discover the story and the traditions of Modica - Baroque home of the famous chocolate.
This stroll will take us up and down the maze of narrow alleys and stairways that characterize this attractive town. We will admire the distinctive beauty of Modica, delve into the memories of its past and witness the remarkable reconstruction after the earthquake of 1693.
We will start our private guided tour from the Belvedere di San Benedetto, where we will get a spectacular bird's eye view of the city. Ambling down through the old quarter known as “Cartellone”, which will reveal hidden corners and secrets of the town to us, we will reach the church of Santa Maria di Betlemme.
We will continue our walk by crossing the valley into the heart of the city, where we will discover the ancient church of San Nicolò Inferiore carved into the rock. And then up we go again! A new climb will bring us up to the rocky castle to visit the church of San Giorgio with its soaring, tiered facade. Finally, we will lose ourselves within the quarter of Santa Lucia and end our tour on the top of the main hill, known as Belvedere del Pizzo, where the majestic landscape opens out before us.
