Our private cultural tour in the heart of the Madonie Mountains starts in Castelbuono, a small and beautiful village lying in a valley in the Milocca hills and surrounded by a forest landscape with oak, chestnut, ash and cherry trees. We will visit the 14th-century castle of Ventimiglias with the Civic Museum that exhibits archaeological finds and paintings. In the heart of the city, Piazza Margherita, we will visit the splendid Matrice Vecchia church with its Gothic-style frescoes and 14th and 15th-century works. The Matrice Nuova was built between the 17th and 18th centuries. It houses a spectacular Medieval painted cross. During our stroll in Castelbuono, it will be also possible to discover some typical products, such as the “Manna”, obtained from the ash tree.
We will continue our expert-led tour with a visit to Isnello, whose old town centre has a typical Medieval structure made of small buildings dominated by the ruins of the Byzantine castle. The wooden baroque artworks are the main peculiarity of this town. We will visit the 15th-century Mother Church, with its baroque stuccos and a magnificent wooden statue of San Nicola (patron saint of Isnello), and the Church of San Michele, built between 14th and 15th centuries and characterized by an intricately painted wooden ceiling.
