The medieval structures of the Monastery of San Nicola host the Regional Archaeological Museum of Agrigento. It exhibits the most meaningful finds coming from Agrigento and its surroundings.
On this expert-led private tour, we will go through the different phases of the artistic creation of Akrágas by looking at pre-protohistoric and Greek pottery, colossal telamon statues, and elegant terracotta figurines. Furthermore, thanks to the visit to the Museum, we will go through the politic heart of the Greek polis that was crowded by public administration buildings: the ekklesiasterion and the bouleuterion.
From here, we will join the Hellenistic-Roman area of Agrigento, where the diggings have revealed some dwellings decorated with parietal frescoes and mosaic floors dating back from the 2nd century BC and the late Roman imperial age.
