We asked the temples of Selinunte, yet their silence weighed more than a sea of words
Jean-Paul Sartre, Les Mots
Founded by the Greeks at the end of the 7th century BC, this Doric city gained great power due to its strategic position, until its destruction by the Carthaginians in 409 BC. With its three hills, Selinunte is one of the biggest Archaeological Parks in Europe. It offers visitors the possibility to travel back to the Greek civilization. The imposing Doric temples are located among an amazing landscape, where the blue sky joins the typical Mediterranean vegetation that stretches over the turquoise sea.
During our private archaeological tour, we will first visit the Eastern Hill with the three E, F, and G temples, and then the sacred hill of the Acropolis, which was defended by the impressive North Gate fortification. From here, we could also reach the sandy Gaggera Hill with its sanctuaries dedicated to Demeter Malophoros and Zeus Meilichios.
