Breathtakingly beautiful glimpses are the background of the prehistoric necropolis of Calicantone and of the troglodyte settlement of the so-called "Castello Sicano". These two monuments, which are in the middle valley of Cava Ispica, will be the first stages of this private cultural tour.
We will then head to the lower valley of Cava Ispica to visit the archaeological site of Parco della Forza, which is a natural fortress where prehistoric, Greek and Roman remains merge with the ruins of the medieval town destroyed by 1693 earthquake. The marquise palace and the old Annunziata’s church dominate the cliff, whose sides are full of rocky dwellings, churches, olive oil mills, watermills, and tanneries, that were used up to the 1950s. Among these, you will also see the 14th-century rock-cut Church of Santa Maria La Cava, whose walls still show the original frescoes.
The historical centre of Ispica will be our final destination. It was built according to the Sicilian late Baroque style by virtue of which Ispica entered the UNESCO list in 2002.
