Between Sicily and Calabria lies a stretch of sea crossed by heroes, generals, traders, and sailors for millennia, where the currents create an ever changing seascape that has inspired poets and storytellers through the ages.
Our cook will welcome you right here in a small village surrounded by the unique landscape of the Strait of Messina, where fishermen still practice the centuries-old method of swordfish fishing on “feluche” (harpoon fishing boats), and raise shellfish in the saltwater Lake of Ganzirri.
Our day will start with shopping in the lakefront “putie” (traditional small grocery stores), and then continue with a hands-on cooking class based on the local products of the Strait of Messina’s culinary tradition.
You will experience a multitude of flavors as you enjoy some of our most beloved dishes, such as the pasta timbale with eggplant or pasta with zucchini and ricotta cheese, swordfish or meat roll-ups Messina style, and finally cannoli with ricotta cream filling or citrus “gelo” (pudding). Local wines will be served with lunch, during which you’ll share the fruits of your labor with our cook.
You’ll enjoy your culinary activities and meal in an early 20th-century villa overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Strait of Messina. A unique experience in which you’ll have the chance to savor, through food and stories, the warmth and hospitality of our island.
