Militello in Val di Catania, a "rough gem" of south-eastern Sicily, still preserves its authenticity, unspoiled by tourism marketing. Because of this, it enchants with its simplicity in a territory completely immersed in nature and adorned with charming architecture.
Our private guided tour will begin with the discovery of its most suggestive historical monuments and will take us through its lively streets and squares, populated by local elders who live their days at a slow pace, eager to share their stories and unveil the secrets of this small UNESCO town.
We will then stop for lunch in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Militello, at Santo's house. He's a local chef who will introduce us to traditional dishes, letting us discover the flavors and scents of a territory rich in biodiversity. This will all take place in what was once his father's workshop, adding a touch of warmth and tradition to our tour.
After lunch, we will meet Giuseppe, a young artisan from Militello who, with the fiber obtained from prickly pear pads, creates truly unique design pieces. With him, you will make wonderful and original souvenirs to take home with you.
Our walk through the enchanting alleys of Militello would not be complete without a visit to one of the small cookie workshops in the historic center, where our hostess Giuseppa will welcome us and reveal the secrets of “cassatelline”, a shortcrust pastry basket filled with a delicious mixture of chopped almonds and aromas. But don't try to ask for the recipe, because it is, of course, a secret and only shared jealously among the women of Militello.
