Responsible tourism

We Do It Responsibly

Tourism in Sicily is growing rapidly, becoming a vital resource for the local community and inspiring Sicilians to stay or return to their homeland.

However, this growth can be a double-edged sword in such a fragile ecosystem. Stereotypical itineraries risk compromising and ridiculing some fundamental aspects of our cultural identity. Mass tourism can lead to increased pollution, waste management challenges, and threats to our historic landmarks. Additionally, the influx of large foreign investors can disadvantage small local producers and entrepreneurs.

This led US to reflect on our role in promoting Sicily and how we can share its beauty with travelers in a responsible way. Since the beginning, our commitment has been shaped by four core principles:

1. Preserving and Promoting Cultural Heritage

We promote travel in low season and encourage visits to lesser-known archaeological sites, small villages, and off the beaten track destinations at risk of depopulation. By diversifying the itineraries, we help protect popular landmarks from overtourism and the environmental and conservation challenges it brings.

2. Sustainability at the Core

We ask all our partners to offer plastic-free experiences and actively support zero-waste initiatives. Our food and wine experiences feature farm-to-table, locally sourced ingredients, primarily from organic farms that are deeply committed to environmental sustainability and respect for workers.

3. A slow journey

We prioritize walking tours in historic centers, because we believe that only in this way you can truly appreciate the details of the architecture, uncover hidden gems, visit artisan shops, and experience everyday local life. Our trekking and cycling itineraries are another key aspect of slow travel, allowing you to explore the rich biodiversity of Sicily’s countryside, coastline, and mountains.

4. Supporting Local Communities

Our private and small-group tours foster authentic and meaningful connections with locals, especially artisans and farmers. More and more young Sicilians are rediscovering nearly forgotten traditions through their involvement with older generations. Our goal is to support them and enhance their extraordinary work, ensuring fair compensation for the time they dedicate to our guests.
