This cultural private tour will start from Calatabiano, an ancient center of Arab origin situated on a rugged hill, that preserves interesting traces of the Norman, Swabian and Aragonese development. The town is located downstream of the Castle, and it is worth to visit the 15th-century church of Santissimo Crocifisso.
A brief stop at Linguaglossa will allow us to admire the 17th-century church of San Francesco of Paola. From Linguaglossa we will proceed to reach the Alcantara Gorges, a unique spectacle in the world: it is a canyon originated from cooling phenomena of ancient lava flows crossed by the icy waters of the Alcantara River.
After the natural spectacle of the Gorges, the tour will continue towards the medieval city of Castiglione di Sicilia, in which we will walk in the narrow streets paved with basalt and admire the view of the valley below.
Finally, we will reach Randazzo, a settlement rich in historical remains, as the Norman Church of Santa Maria, the Palace Lanza, the church of San Nicolò, built in the 14th century, the Palazzo Scala, that hosted the sovereign Swabians, Aragonese and then the Emperor Charles V, the Church of San Martino, and finally the Swabian Castle, a square tower that currently houses the Archaeological Museum Vagliasindi.
