Camporeale: a delicious place

The Alto Belice Valley, which is a few kilometers away from Palermo, is placed among verdant hills and river valleys that stretch as far as the eye can see. It encloses the small town of Camporeale, that has always been dedicated to agriculture.

What is most striking is the breathtaking view that is presented to the visitor: hills, mountains, and plateaus frame the towns dotting the horizon - Corleone, Contessa Entellina, Gibellina, Salaparuta, to name just a few.

This picturesque landscape will be the setting for our food and wine tour, whose main protagonists will be the products of small, excellent, family-run farms. The farmers’ love for their land, their rediscovery of ancient traditions and their craftsmanship imply that these products display an excellent quality, together with being unique instead of mass produced.

We will start the morning with a visit to a small dairy built near the pastures, where the owners will tell us the family history and the secrets of their extraordinary cheeses. We will then have the opportunity to watch the preparation of ricotta and delight ourselves with the typical Pecorino DOP and primo sale.

Next, we will move to the town to visit one of the typical butcher shops in this area, where cured meats are still prepared with ancient craft methods and enhanced with Mediterranean flavors. Among salami, mortadella and hams, we will also learn about the story of the owners, butchers by passion who never cease to surprise their customers with new delicacies.

The last stop of this private tour will take us to a small family winery, which has been cultivating native vines - such as Catarratto and Perricone - among the enchanting hills of Camporeale for years. After a tour of the vineyards and a visit to the cellar, we will taste these typical wines while the owners tell us their stories and family recipes.
