The route, which winds for about 7-8 km, starts near the famous Rifugio Sapienza. The trail’s name, Schiena dell’Asino ("Donkey’s Back"), reflects its particular elevation profile, which is rather steep at the beginning, gentle in the central part and uphill again at the end.
Along the way you will enjoy a privileged view of the southern slope of Mount Etna, a dramatic landscape shaped by countless lateral eruptions.
