The southern end of Sicily, which was known by the name of "Promontorium Pachyni" during ancient times, represents one of the excellent areas in the agricultural backdrop of the island. Several factors render it so exceptional: the strength of the most intense solar irradiance in the Old Continent, the right salinity in irrigation water, the sun exposition, the composition and texture of the soil. These factors characterize the organoleptic properties of popular PGI products (“Protected Geographical Indication”) such as the Tomatoes of Pachino and the grapes used to make the Nero d’Avola wine. Besides, fishers have been casting their nets to catch schools of Red Tuna coming back from the season of love since Greek times.
Our private food&wine tour will start from the vibrant colors of the Sicilian countryside by entering the world of the sun-dried cherry Tomato of Pachino and delighting our palates with the sweetness of this fruit. We'll then move to the old fishing village of Marzamemi where, within one of the most ancient fish businesses in Sicily, we will get to know and taste the thousand sides of tuna. Our expert-led tour of flavors will continue with a visit to a local winery, where we'll walk among the small trees of Nero d’Avola grapes and taste the best wines of this extraordinary area. We will conclude this guided tour with a stroll in the Natural Reserve of Vendicari, whose tuna fishery will bring us back to the Sicilian tuna production in the early 20th century.
